The
Duties of City Council: City council is the
city's legislative body. The popularly elected city council is
responsible for enacting ordinances, imposing taxes, making
appropriations, establishing policy, and hiring some city
officials. The council adopts the local general plan, zoning, and
subdivision ordinance.
The Duties of Mayor:
The mayor is responsible for all executive and
administrative work by the city, which means he or she must make
sure that the city's laws are carried out. The mayor is also
responsible for overseeing all law enforcement within the city's
boundaries. In addition, it is the mayor's responsibility to make
the city of Huntington is a better place for its people. The
mayor's office must work to improve the government of the city,
encourage business growth in the city, and improve the well-being
of those who live in the city. The mayor must also keep the public
informed about city government activities so that citizens are
aware of how the mayor is performing his or her duties. |
